The film follows a boy named Milo. Milo is starting the summer, but his mother gives him the duties and tasks such as weeding the garden or eat their vegetables. Milo But after his sister's purple dyes, face, her mother did not see the humor in this. She orders him to his room. After an argument with his mother in which Milo says, "I do not see what is special about mothers", Milo goes to his room. After falling asleep, Milo does not hear the roar of rockets landing outside. Then the Martians into Milo's house and take his mother. Milo realizes he has to rescue her. Milo embarks on an adventure to rescue his mother.

The film is based on the illustrated children's book by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Berkeley "Berke" breathed, author of the comic strip Bloom County.
